2021: The Rebuild

we are not here to talk about last year

2020 is behind us. It's time to look to the future.

Choose what to leave behind, reflect on your core foundation, and commit to building on it. The Rebuild season isn't going to be easy either, but it will be a time of incredible personal growth.

move the puck up the ice

(Tortured analogies are going to be my thing, so let's just get that out of the way...)

You've got to get out of your defensive end and push through the neutral zone before you get a chance to score. What small thing can you do today to move a step closer to your goals?

What is the very next Next Step, even if it's just corralling the puck behind your net and scanning for an outlet?

For me, this first morning of January, it was purchasing the domain name puckdrop.hockey and throwing together this landing page. Admittedly, it may be the worst landing page in the history of web copy, but that's not the point. It's 100% more than I did last year. And it's just the start.

the goal: Be 10% Better

Hopefully it is obvious, but neither you nor I are here to win the Stanley Cup. We play for the love of the game, to get a good workout, and for our teammates.

We each want to bring our best to our teams. Whether you're a brand-new player coming up through an adult-development program, or a 20+ year veteran, everyone wants to deliver results when their team needs it.

You can be 10% better. 10% quicker down the ice. 10% faster and harder shot. 10% more accurate with a pass, or a snipe. Compound those gains, and you can be a difference-maker on your team (even if your GM doesn't recognize it when it comes to negotiation-time).

The Plan

While the details are still being worked out, the broad outline looks like this:

  1. Ice Time
Most rec-league players only play once per week, in a game situation. With warm-ups, you're probably not spending more than 20 minutes on the ice. Adding just one training session per week, with 40-50 minutes of ice-time, can make a huge difference. PuckDrop will match you with a local rink and time that works with your schedule.

  2. Focus on Skills
While "stick-and-puck" sessions can provide additional ice time, it's up to you to figure out what to do with your time. PuckDrop will bring the structure and tools to make that time more effective, including a "workout of the day".

  3. Measurement and Gamification
"10% better" sounds vague, but we are looking at ways track your stats and demonstrate gains over time. Nothing better than a little friendly competition with your teammates.

Draft Time

As COVID restrictions ease around the country, we will be aggressively pursuing opportunities to launch the PuckDrop concept. By providing your location and email address, we can let you know when we're ready to hit the ice. The first 100 entries will get their first PuckDrop session absolutely free.
